Best Healthcare Technology Companies To Watch In Right Now

If you are an emerging market investor, India is supposed to be one of the great growth opportunities out there. The nation has a young population that is trying to be as upwardly mobile as possible, with a growing industrial and IT and services base. The real opportunity here is that India has over 1.2 billion mouths to feed, and that number keeps growing each year. The weakness in emerging markets has been very abnormal of late, but when you compare it to the ongoing growth of the United States and consider the recovery starting to emerge in Europe then the situation in India is become dire.

Emerging market investors can absorb heavier losses than you might normally consider. That being said, when investors are down 30% and 50%, suddenly they become very concerned. The slowing BRIC growth in Brazil, Russia, India and China is being met with enough internal headwinds inside India that the incoming Raghuram Rajan as the next governor of India central bank could be walking into an impossible situation.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Dan Caplinger]

In Daktronics' report, be sure to look at how the company compares to results that industrial-lighting and display competitor LSI Industries (NASDAQ: LYTS  ) announced late last month. Even with a 5% gain in revenue for its March quarter, LSI posted a loss, showing the difficulty in producing high-margin business in the industry. For its part, if Daktronics can keep pushing past its operational challenges, it should be in better position to stay profitable both this quarter and well into the future.

Advisors' Opinion:

The biggest new holdings are Philip Morris International and Reinsurance Group of America (NYSE: RGA  ) . Other new holdings of interest include Radian Group (NYSE: RDN  ) . To say that mortgage insurer Radian had a good past year would be an understatement, as the stock more than tripled. That's partly due to expectations of a boom in business as the housing market picks up, with tighter lending rules probably leading to greater need for the coverage. The stock recently got an upgrade, with an analyst expecting a possibly bumpy 2013 because of a high level of delinquent loans, but much smoother sailing in following years.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Insider Monkey]

Penn West Petroleum (PWE) is the next on the list, with Y/Cap raising its position by over 100,000 shares to 875,000 shares, worth around $9.7 million. Penn West reported a net loss of $40 million in the second quarter, after reporting an income worth $235 million, with revenue also remaining almost flat on the year. The company also reduced the number of its employees by 25% since the beginning of the year, in order to increase its competitive performance.

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Another under-$10 stock that's starting to trend within range of triggering a big breakout trade is Penn West Petroleum (PWE), which is engaged in the business of acquiring, exploring, developing, exploiting and holding interests in petroleum and natural gas properties and related assets. This stock has been under pressure by the bears during the last three months, with shares off by 24%.

If you take a look at the chart for Penn West Petroleum, you'll notice that this stock has been trending sideways over the last two months, with shares moving between $7.89 on the downside and $8.84 on the upside. Shares of PWE are now starting to spike higher above its recent low of $8.14 a share and it's quickly moving within range of triggering a breakout trade above the upper-end of its recent sideways trading chart pattern.

Market players should now look for long-biased trades in PWE if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $8.84 a share to its 50-day moving average of $8.96 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 2.43 million shares. If that breakout hits soon, then PWE will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at its 200-day moving average of $10.07 to $11 a share. Any high-volume move above those levels will then give PWE a chance to tag $11.50 to $12 a share.

Traders can look to buy PWE off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some key near-term support levels at $8.14 a share or at $7.89 a share. One can also buy PWE off strength once it starts to clear those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

The market seems to be showing fatigue particularly with positive onshore oil service data points that may nolonger seem incremental. Investors have become especially focused on potential issues and macro concerns. We believe this phaseof enhanced risk perceptions will pass and still recommend owning selective stocks based on attractive valuations and healthyfundamentals. Of the 16 oilfield services companies having reported their quarters to date, the share price changes have at timesbeen difficult to tie to specific results. … Five of the 12 companies who have beaten earnings expectations have seen their share prices drop on the day, including Basic Energy Services (BAS) (-9.0%), Baker Hughes (BHI) (-2.5%), National Oilwell Varco (NOV) (-1.5%), Oceaneering (OII) (-4.2%), and Schlumberger (SLB) (-2.0%). Other stocks beating expectations have traded higher as expected, including Cameron International (CAM) (+4.1%), FMC Technologies (FTI) (+3.1%), Mitcham Industries (MIND) (+3.8%), Nabors Industries (NBR) (+1.2%), Patterson-UTI Energy (PTEN) (+1.8%), RPC (RES) (+8.4%), and Weatherford International (WFT) (+2.3%). Companies which have missed have universally seen their share prices decline, including Diamond Offshore Drilling (DO) (-4.3%), Gulfmark Offshore (GLF) (-0.1%), and Hercules Offshore (HERO) (-6.9%). Halliburton (HAL) was in line and flat on the day.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Tiernan Ray]

It’s been a busy day for J.C. Penney (JCP), and this afternoon, another party climbed into the fray: Starbuck‘s (SBUX) CEO Howard Schultz spoke with Maria Bartiromo on CNBC‘s “Closing Bell,” offering a defense for interim CEO Mike Ullman and a scathing attack on activist shareholder Bill Ackman, who today called for the chairman, Tom Engibous, to step down.

Said Schultz, “I have never seen in 20 years as a CEO or a board member, any board member leaking an email to the press, not sharing it with the board, not sharing it with the CEO,” referring to Ackman’s two press releases in the last 24 hours.

The irony is Bill Ackman has the blood on his hands for being the architect and recruiter of [former CEO] Ron Johnson, and of the strategy. Mike Ullman came back to try and save that company. He is the kind of leader that will rebuild the trust with employees, and if given time, turn things around. There’s no better person to run J.C. Penney. And what’s so wrong is that Bill Ackman has been destroying the company. If I was sitting on that board, I would be asking for Bill Ackman’s removal. Bill Ackman has fractured the trust within that board. Watching what went on today, I find it disgusting.

J.C. Penney shares ended the day down 79 cents, or almost 6%, at $12.87.

  • [By Douglas A. McIntyre]

J.C Penney Co. Inc. (NYSE: JCP) continues to face unprecedented drops in traffic and sales that, to some extent, caused its largest shareholder Bill Ackman to sell his 17.7% ownership at a massive loss. And there is not a single reason to believe that this revenue drop will reverse itself. J.C. Penney has been through two cycles of management, pushing out CEOMyron E. Ullman III in late 2012 and replacing him with Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ: AAPL) Ron Johnson, only to bring backUllman at the start of this year. It will take another several months to get a new chief executive officer. In the meantime, J.C. Penney’s balance sheet will be sucked dry of cash.
