Small cap security and surveillance stocks OSI Systems, Inc (NASDAQ: OSIS), Vimicro International Corporation (NASDAQ: VIMC), Analogic Corporation (NASDAQ: ALOG), Lifelock Inc (NYSE: LOCK) and View Systems Inc (OTCBB: VSYM) have been producing a steady flow of news lately that investors might want to take a closer look at. After all, the whole security and surveillance industry is pretty vast as it would include everything from airport scanners to security cameras to software securing everyone personal or online data. With that in mind, here is a look at the latest news from important small cap security and surveillance stocks:
OSI Systems Looses a Key TSAContract Over Chinese Made Parts. On Thursday December 5th, small cap OSI Systems,a vertically integrated designer and manufacturer of specialized electronic systems and components, announced that its security division, Rapiscan Systems, was notified by the TSA that a delivery order placed with Rapiscan on September 26, 2013 for Advanced Technology X-Ray (AT-2) based systems was being terminated for default. OSI Systems has since de-booked this order valued atapproximately $60 million. According to subsequent media reports, the baggage-screening equipmentcontained an unapproved part or partsmanufactured in China and the TSA is seeking to ban Rapiscan Systems from future TSA contracts. One has to wonder just how that managed to happenwhether it was a screw-up at OSI Systemsend, the TSA end or at both ends. Its also triggered a number of shareholder lawsuits because OSI Systemssecurity division, which includesthe TSA work, generated 46% of the company revenue in the last fiscal year. OSI Systems is down 20.9% since the start of the yearbut up 291.7% over the past five years.Top Industrial Disributor Stocks To Invest In Right Now: Network Exploration Ltd (NET)

Although the company is overly relying on Afrezza, there is to say that MannKind has inked some deals in the recent past. These were primarily aimed to furthering its pipeline development but with less risk and with less research and development expenditure directly for the firm. In November, 2012 it signed a license agreement with Colby Pharmaceutical Company granting the latter exclusive rights to its early stage cancer program. Currently, the firm is also looking for partners regarding Afrezza. Last year in July, it entered one with Deerfield that ensured financing worth $160 million for MannKind. Also, in October 2012, the company raised $86 million (net) through the issuance of shares and has almost $120 million left under its credit facility. This has removed some concerned about a financial crisis in the company, although it hasn't done so throughly.

They discovered that memorable, pronounceable symbols - like Yum! Brands Inc. (NYSE: YUM) and Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) - actually perform better in the market.
"[Our] research shows that people take mental shortcuts, even when it comes to their investments, when it would seem they would want to be most rational," Professor Daniel Oppenheimer, who co-authored the Princeton study, told Psych Central. - [By Ben Levisohn]
Southwest Airlines (LUV) has gained 28% this year. Delta Air Lines (DAL) has risen 35%. American Airlines (AAL) has advanced 44%. And United Continental (UAL)? It’s gained just 7.1% in 2014.
Clearly, the market thinks something is wrong with United Continental. Wolfe Research’s Hunter Keay and Jared Shojaian explain what that might be:
We believe [United Continental] has a structural deficiency relative to peers. We believe this deficiency is partly a result of a network that is too large and uses planes that are not optimized for the routes they serve. We believe in order to fix this problem there must be a willingness to forego revenues in order to save costs. We believe bad IT and poor customer service metrics exacerbated the problem, but good IT and better customer service can completely fix it. We believe planes need to be put down without replacement, we believe the associated headcount must be evaluated, and we believe a hard and honest evaluation of the value of the current network will yield a difficult conclusion: fewer planes, fewer cities served, and less revenue might result in lower costs and higher profits. We believe current[United Continental] management will get there.
Just how big a problem is United Continental’s size? Consider: United Continental flies 1,623 different route combinations, 58% more than Delta Air Lines and 65% more than American Airlines, Keay andShojaian say. United also serves 471 airports, versus just 340 for American Airlines and 342 for Delta Airlines.
Shares of United Continental have dropped 0.8% to $40.58 at 2:33 p.m., while Southwest Airlines has fallen 0.9% to $24.12, Delta Air Lines gas gained 0.2% to $37.17 and American Airlines has ticked up 0.1% at $36.41.
- [By Ben Levisohn]
Shares of American Airlines (AAL) have dropped 7% this week, while Delta Air Lines (DAL) has fallen 6.3%, United Continental (UAL) has slid 10%, Southwest Airlines (LUV) has declined 4.9% and Alaska Air (ALK) is off 4.5%.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Alex Planes]
The leveraged-buyout industry (also known as private equity) gained a particular notoriety during the 2012 presidential campaign. However, the history of that industry is not particularly lengthy. In fact, it begins right around the time that losing candidate Mitt Romney began his career at Bain Capital. The very first time a leveraged buyout took a major public company private was on May 14, 1979, when Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (NYSE: KKR ) paid $355 million for struggling manufacturer Houdaille Industries.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Josh Zachariah]
Tesco (TSCDY) has been selling well short of the price Warren Buffett paid last year. In November he paid some $18 a share and it now sells for less than $15 (a P/E less than 9). The remarkable thing is how unchanged the business is despite the sell-off. What catalyzed the sharp drop in price was comments by the CEO that earnings growth would be muted for 2012. But what Ie discovered, as Warren Buffett certainly has, is that the company is an exceptional business selling at a very attractive price.
